We have recently published our latest report relating to our long-running Deer Vehicle Collision project, which we run in partnership with Transport Scotland. This new report includes data from 2022, 2023 and 2024, creating a dataset of over 43,000 mapped incidents recorded between 2008 and 2024. The project’s findings will help inform our ongoing work with Transport Scotland and land managers to try and reduce DVCs on Scotland’s roads.

We have been working with Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland and Amey South West Trunk Roads to look at potential ways to reduce collisions between vehicles and deer along Scotland’s trunk road network.
Today we published a new report from Langbein Wildlife which provides an in-depth analysis of the issues and suggests mitigation options for four deer/vehicle collision “hotspots” – the M9 East of Pirnhall interchange, M8 North and West of Livingston interchange, A82 Renton junction and A9 Lothbeg to Ord of Caithness.
Data analysis, site visits, landowner consultation and, on the A9, a thermal imaging survey were used to identify potential site-specific solutions. The report’s findings will help inform approaches to tackling the complex problem of deer/vehicle collisions.
