There’s no clear legal framework to guide wildlife welfare, but we set out our approach in the position statement below.
NatureScot is the lead adviser to the Scottish Government on wildlife management.
Increasingly, wildlife managers and the public expect us to respond to questions about wildlife welfare issues. These can be difficult to answer, however, as there’s no clear legal framework governing the welfare of wild animals, as there is for domesticated animals.
To explain our understanding of and approach to wildlife welfare, we have put together this statement on the NatureScot Position on Wildlife Welfare.
