How to make a Freedom of Information request
You should write to us describing the information you want. The more detail you can give, the quicker it will be for us to send the information to you. Your request must include your name and contact details.
It will help us if you can give details of the:
- time period the information is from

Information not accessible
There are a few cases where we will not release information.
The Freedom of Information (Scotland) 2002 Act and Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 give a limited number of reasons why a public authority might not release information on request.
These reasons are set out in:
- Part 2 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) 2002 Act
- Regulation 10 of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004
We are committed to openness but should we feel an exception or exemption applies to any of the information you have requested, we will write to you explaining why.
Charges for information
We don’t charge for information we provide under Freedom of Information requests, but we will refuse to answer requests for large amounts of information that will use a lot of staff time.
If this is the case, we will write to you to suggest alternative information that we can supply.
Complaints and feedback
If you’re unhappy with how we have responded to your information request, please write to us within 40 working days explaining your concerns. Our Director of Policy and Advice (or a nominated delegate) will carry out a review of our response and contact you with their findings within 20 working days.
If you’re still not satisfied, you can write to the Scottish Information Commissioner within 6 months of receiving our response.
