Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015
This legislation gives communities new powers to get involved in owning assets, decision-making and securing better outcomes via public services.
The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 gives communities a range of new powers, including:
The 2015 Act also strengthens community planning and places a duty on every public body to produce a public register of land holdings and other assets it owns.

Land Reform Act
The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016 will also encourage more communities to engage in decisions relating to land.
This legislation:
- makes more information available about land ownership
- establishes a new Scottish Land Commission
- places a duty on Scottish Ministers to produce a ‘land rights and responsibilities’ statement
