Graduate Placement Scheme

Our scheme offers new graduates the chance to learn about our work by taking part in an NatureScot project for 6 months to 1 year. All opportunities are full-time and paid, and graduates are placed across our offices.

Sample subject areas for project topics for graduates include:

  • More People enjoying & benefitting from Nature
  • Transforming how we work
  • Investing in the management of Scotland's Natural Capital
  • The Health ad resilience of Scotland's Nature is improved

To be eligible for the scheme you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have graduated at degree or postgraduate level from a higher level education institution within the past 4 years;
  • Are not currently studying full-time;
  • Have had no more than one year’s relevant (graduate level) work experience since their last graduation;
  • Have the relevant skills to undertake the project.

The scheme will be advertised in April/May each year.

Student Placement Scheme

Our student placements offer an opportunity to work on National Nature Reserves (NNR) for 12 months. They are development roles for people in the early stages of their career looking to gain practical experience to help improve their employment prospects and achieve a career in nature conservation. 

To be eligible for the scheme you must meet the following criteria:

  • The candidate will have qualified (or be currently studying) at HND level (SCQF Level 8) or below from a higher level education institution within the past 2 years in a relevant subject;
  • Have had no more than one year’s relevant work experience since completing their qualification.

The scheme will advertised in April/May each year.

PHD & MSc Placements

NatureScot is focusing its support for PhDs on NERC CASE studentships (costing NatureScot £1,000 per annum over four years).  NatureScot is finding these collaborative applications offer very good value and allow us to continue to work in partnership with universities.
