Marine Protected Area Management and Monitoring (MarPAMM) - Regional MPA Management Plans
MarPAMM
MarPAMM (Marine Protected Area Management and Monitoring) was a four-year cross-border marine management and monitoring project that ran from December 2018 to January 2023. It was funded by the European Union’s INTERREG VA programme and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
The project included trialling the development of MPA management plans on a regional basis (as opposed to site-specific) in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland. This work was led by NatureScot and in Scotland the Argyll and Outer Hebrides Marine Regions were selected for their their overlapping MPAs, history of MPA processes and their geographical location.
Building on lessons learned from previous projects and listening to the needs and aspirations of local stakeholders, project officers developed an agreed vision for the MPAs in both the Argyll and Outer Hebrides Marine Regions and produced a series of objectives and recommendations.
