Latest update - October 2025

NatureScot has merged Bogton Loch Site of Special Scientific Interest and Dalmellington Moss Site of Special Scientific Interest to form Doon Valley Wetlands Site of Special Scientific Interest near Dalmellington in East Ayrshire on 16 October 2025. We may also publish the notices we post on the Tell Me Scotland website. (Select NatureScot from the 'Choose organisation' list on the left side). You can sign up to receive Tell Me Scotland email alerts whenever notices are published that will affect the area where you live or work.

We must publish a notice in a local newspaper (and by any other suitable means) whenever we:

  • notify a new Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)
  • de-notify all or part of an existing SSSI
