Pressures on fossils

Fossils provide an invaluable insight into the past – but irresponsible collecting threatens our fossil resource.

All fossil collectors should follow the Scottish Fossil Code.

Fossils are an irreplaceable resource, which can tell us much about animal life and environments in Scotland’s past.

Fossil collecting is also an exciting and rewarding hobby enjoyed by many. But irresponsible collecting and lack of care by some collectors can threaten the destruction of this resource at certain vulnerable sites.
