Stoats - Licence forms and guidance documents
Stoats and General Licence 14
As of 1 April 2020 anyone wishing to trap stoats for the conservation of wild birds or for the prevention of serious damage will need to do so under our new General Licence 14.
You need to understand and comply with the requirements of the licence in order to ensure you act legally. This will allow you to meet the requirements of The Spring Traps Approval (Scotland) Order 2011.
As of 1 April 2020 you may now no longer use other trap types to catch stoats (Fenn-type, WCS tube trap, BMI Magnum models), if you use these types of traps for control of other species and you catch stoats you will be breaking the law.
If in doubt, don't risk it. Please contact us if you have any questions about the use of this licence.
Shooting remains a legal method of control of stoats.
