This guidance updates best practice information for developers and planners to ensure that onshore wind energy developments post minimal risk to bats.
Note that in this, the first year of implementation of the guidance, using a combination of full spectrum and zero-crossing bat detectors for pre-construction surveys is acceptable where there are not enough full spectrum detectors available. We would though expect zero-crossing detectors to be replaced over time with full spectrum detectors, to fully comply with the guidance. Splitting surveys between years is not recommended. This is to avoid adding between year and spatial variation to the data, and the risk of delays to projects.
