SNH Research Report 1012 - Population modelling for the Scottish Northern raven population

SNH issue licences to control ravens in Scotland. The vast majority of these licences are to protect livestock. This report was undertaken to ensure that the licensed control of ravens in Scotland will not result in long-term population declines. In most areas of Scotland the levels of control permitted under licence are low. However, in a small number of areas relative levels of control are higher and the models used in the report predict that this could lead to declines. However, there is no evidence on the ground of declines. The report discusses further work that could be undertaken to improve the reliability of the population models and the conclusions and licensing decisions in the future.
