NatureScot Commissioned Report 895: Woodland composition, climate change and the long-term resilience of lichen epiphytes at Glasdrum NNR
Management decisions that are made today can affect forest ecosystems for decades or even centuries. Thinking about and exploring a range of future scenarios can help to identify robust decisions in the face of uncertainty.
The Lichen Epiphyte Scenarios toolkit provides a way to compare present day (baseline) and predicted future (2050s and 2080s) environmental suitability for 382 lichens that are important for forest biodiversity.
This report presents a case study that examines how various change scenarios might affect Glasdrum Wood National Nature Reserve’s important epiphytic communities. Using the toolkit, it considers the impact of predicted changes to our climate and possible changes in tree species composition.
