NatureScot welcomes new deputy chair

NatureScot is delighted to confirm that Aoife Martin has been appointed as the new deputy chair of the board for the next two years.

Aoife Martin joined the board of Scotland’s nature agency in 2016, to which she brings a wealth of experience in fisheries, forestry and land management.

She said: “I’m delighted to take up the position of deputy chair of the NatureScot board.

“This is a crucial time for Scotland’s nature agency as we accelerate work to meet the huge challenges posed by the twin crises of nature loss and climate change.

“I look forward to helping to steer and support NatureScot in the bold and ambitious action we will lead to protect, restore and value nature in the coming years.”

Aoife is currently Director of Operations at Seafish, the public body responsible for supporting the UK seafood sector, where she is responsible for regulation, responsible sourcing and economics.

She has worked extensively for the civil service in New Zealand in fisheries, forestry and land management where she worked on policy development, regulatory implementation and compliance issues.

This included working as the deep-water fisheries manager where she established a collaborative partnership between government and the commercial industry to ensure the sustainable management of deep-water stocks.

She holds a BA (Hons) degree in History and Geography from Trinity College, Dublin, and an MBA from the University of Edinburgh.
