NatureScot Commissioned Report 786 - Scottish saltmarsh survey national report
This report presents the results of the first in-depth and comprehensive national survey of the saltmarsh habitat in Scotland.
Detailed mapped information now exists for all of our ‘soft coasts’, as national surveys of dune, machair and shingle are also complete.
The three-year survey project delivered a map of the vegetation of all saltmarshes of more than 3 hectares in area or more than 500m in length. It also assessed the condition of all sites.
In total, 7,704 hectares were surveyed over 249 locations. Of this area, 5,840 hectares were classified as saltmarsh.
