NatureScot Commissioned Report 540: Distribution, population assessment and activities of beavers in Tayside

In response to evidence of increasing beaver (Castor fiber) activity in the Tay catchment, NatureScot commissioned a study to examine the status of the beaver population in these rivers. In particular, the requirements of the survey were to establish the population size, distribution and impacts of the beavers. We combined surveys between 28 May and 6 July 2012, with long-term observations of beaver activity. This report outlines the methodologies and results of this survey, as well as our recommendations for future research and management.
