News about formal changes and proposals to Sites of Special Scientific Interest and National Nature Reserves.

Site of Special Scientific Interest notices

Scottish Natural Heritage denotified part of the following:

  • Mollinsburn Road Cutting SSSI near Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire on 4 February 2019.  This was as a result of the M80 upgrade at Mollinsburn.
  • St Margaret’s Marsh SSSI near Rosyth in Fife on 20 February 2019.  This was as a result of development connected with the new Queensferry Crossing.

National Nature Reserve notices

No current notices.

We may also publish the notices we post on the Tell Me Scotland website. (Select Scottish Natural Heritage from the 'Choose organisation' list on the left side). You can sign up to receive Tell Me Scotland email alerts whenever notices are published that will affect the area where you live or work.

We must publish a notice in a local newspaper (and by any other suitable means) whenever we:

  • notify a new Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)
  • de-notify all or part of an existing SSSI
