NatureScot Research Report 1029 - SCM survey of upland notified features on designated sites - Derskelpin Moss
Site Condition Monitoring (SCM) is NatureScot's rolling programme of monitoring of the condition of natural features (habitats, species populations and earth science interests) on protected areas in Scotland. This report summarises the field data collected by Peak Ecology during SCM of the blanket bog natural feature on Derskelpin Moss Site of Special Scientific Interest. The blanket bog natural feature on Derskelpin Moss was found to be in favourable condition. The main threat to the continued favourable condition of the bog in one small area was the presence of active drains, which over time could lead to it drying out. It is recommended that these should be blocked to prevent further peat erosion and restore the high water table.
