NatureScot Commissioned Report 920: Juniper survey of Perth and Kinross, 2010
This 2010 survey assessed the condition of juniper in Perth and Kinross outside of designated sites. The survey recorded the size, health, age class and regeneration of juniper at 96 sites.
Although most sites were rated as healthy, the results show that:
- 76% of bushes were mature or over-mature
- only 20% of sites had young bushes
- just 7% of sites had seedling bushes
Juniper populations are generally healthy in Perth and Kinross. But the report recommends appropriate grazing management of these sites to secure the long-term future of juniper in the area.
