Environmental assessment
Environmental assessment encompasses all statutory processes to identify, assess and mitigate impacts on the environment
NatureScot gets involved in three types of environmental assessment:
- Strategic Environmental Assessment – for plans, programmes and strategies
- Environmental Impact Assessment – for projects and development proposals
- Habitats Regulations Appraisal – for plans or projects affecting Natura sites
We’re also keen to help decision-makers, developers and others to carry out environmental assessments by:
- providing easy access to the environmental data we hold, via NatureScot data services
- sharing guidance and good practice
- being clear about how we deal with environmental assessments
- providing advice on specific sites and topics
