NatureScot Commissioned Report 374: The Special Qualities of the National Scenic Areas
Scotland’s National Scenic Areas (NSAs) represent its finest landscapes. From 2007 to 2009, NatureScot staff visited all 40 NSAs to assess the qualities that make the landscape of each special. These ‘special qualities’ define the areas’ outstanding scenery.
The special qualities are assessed using a transparent and repeatable methodology. The qualities are then expressed either in a short bulleted list or a longer more evocative description. The qualities reflect the reason for designating the NSAs and create a baseline for celebrating, promoting and safeguarding these outstanding areas.
Read this report and find out what makes Scotland’s NSAs so special.
