Five digital innovation companies chosen for NatureScot GovTech Catalyst Challenge

Earlier this year, NatureScot was successful in securing up to £1.25 million funding to work with digital innovation companies to help improve planning around Scotland’s most valuable natural sites.

The award was granted through the UK-wide GovTech Catalyst Challenge to develop a new online service for protected areas.

The aim of the project is to provide targeted information to land managers and developers who are considering land use change on a protected area in Scotland.

The NatureScot challenge was launched in May 2019 and we were delighted to receive 24 applications from tech companies, proposing a wide range of solutions to meet the challenge using new and emerging digital technology.

After careful consideration of the applications, five companies have been chosen to work with us to develop prototype platforms using technologies such as geographic information systems, remote sensing, machine learning and advanced analytics.  The successful companies are:

  • Exegesis Spatial Data Management
  • Informed Solutions
  • Natural Capital Research
  • Stevenson Astrosat
  • Two Worlds Consulting

Work will begin in October to develop prototypes for delivery in mid-December.
