Seminar Presentation - Dynamic Coast: supporting coastal management and enhanced coastal resilience - Dr Jim Hansom

Jim Hansom’s research interests include coastal processes and forms and the practical use of this knowledge in the sustainable management of coasts. Jim has championed the use of Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) to produce partitioned sediment budgets to establish past and present coastal change in the face of changes in sea level and wave climate, an approach now adopted by NatureScot as its standard research reporting methodology.

As Principal Investigator of the award-winning Dynamic Coast project, Jim will outline the aims and key outputs of a pan-government partnership that has transformed Scotland’s public sector understanding of coastal change and assessed the impact of change on coastal assets, infrastructure and communities. The talk will include details of Dynamic Coast phase 2, an ongoing project aiming to assess coastal resilience in the face of anticipated future climate change and inform adaptation plans.
