NatureScot Research Report 1137 - Birks of Aberfeldy SSSI - lichen survey with recommendations on beech management
The Birks of Aberfeldy Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is an ancient gorge woodland which is rich in lichens with many rare species. This report provides the results of a comprehensive lichen survey undertaken in 2017/ 2018 and recommends priorities for management of beech. This is a tree that can have negative impacts on lichens due to the dense shade it casts.
