NatureScot Research Report 1033 - SCM survey of upland notified features on designated sites - Foula
Site Condition Monitoring (SCM) is NatureScot's rolling programme of monitoring of the condition of natural features (habitats, species populations and earth science interests) on protected areas in Scotland. This report summarises the field data collected by Andy Acton and Anna Griffith during SCM of the blanket bog natural feature on Foula Site of Special Scientific Interest. The blanket bog natural feature on Foula was found to be in unfavourable condition. The main cause of the unfavourable condition of the blanket bog was found to be the grazing pressure and associated trampling on parts of the area leading to uprooted vegetation and exposure of the peat substrate.
