NatureScot Commissioned Report 900: Data based estimates of collision risk: an example based on harbour seal tracking data around a proposed tidal turbine array in the Pentland Firth
This report estimates the collision risk for harbour seals in relation to tidal turbines. This is based on recent population survey data and observed behaviour patterns drawn from targeted telemetry tracking studies.
The worked example of the method assesses the collision risk associated with a proposed turbine array development in the Pentland Firth. The report briefly summarises the movement data collected during transmitter deployments on harbour seals in the study area in 2011.
The report’s emphasis is on information most likely to be of use in assessing the potential impacts of tidal turbine deployments.
