Tentsmuir Point NNR - Life on the Sands - Education pack

This pack is for teachers and leaders who want to bring groups to Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve. You’ll find ideas and support for designing an exciting educational programme of activities. It will help young people to learn first hand about the natural and physical environment and provide chances for cross-curricular work.

Situated at the mouth of the Tay estuary, Tentsmuir is a place of remarkable natural richness. It’s an ever-changing landscape, home to seals and migrating wildfowl. Explore this thriving habitat to find rare species of ants, moths, butterflies and orchids. There’s also history, including stories of Viking raids and shipwrecked sailors.

This pack divides activities into three themes:

• sea, shore and sand
• woodland ways
• people, past and present

Most of the activities are designed for first-hand outdoor experience. Some can be completed in school. All fit within the 5–14 curriculum, with a focus on Environmental Studies.
