Seasons Change

We'll be celebrating the changing of the seasons as summer becomes autumn with a drop-in day at Flanders National Nature Reserve. With a variety of activities throughout the day, there is something for everyone:

Information and Crafts Tent
9.00am - 14.30pm - Information tent located in the car park will have interactive displays, nature themed arts and crafts and the chance to chat to our Stirling NNR team about our work on the reserve.

Moth Trapping
9.00am - 10.30am - Moth trapping - we will have our moth traps set on the bog overnight and ready to reveal any creatures that spent the night inside. Flanders is well known for it's incredible moth assemblage and for being home to the famous Rannoch Brindled Beauty. Come along in the morning to help us identify and release the moths. (Location - tent in car park)

Pond Discovery
11.00am - 14.30pm - Pond dipping will be available from the main pond platform on the boardwalk. Trays, ID sheets and nets will all be provided. Please note this activity is weather dependent and may be limited in the event the pond water level becomes low due to dry weather.

Guided Walks
11.00am and 13.00pm - Guided Walks - There will be two guided walks of the boardwalk throughout the day. The first will leave from the car park at 11.00am, the second at 13.00pm. The walks will be led by reserve staff and will tell the story of Flanders Moss and it's importance as an example of peat restoration, the work that is done to manage the reserve and offer a chance to spot some resident bog species such as lizards, dragonflies and birds.

This event is run on a drop-in basis and is completely free. There is no booking required however if you would like to attend one of the guided walks there will be a register available at the information tent to sign-up for your preferred time slot on the day.
