A celebration of everything rocky, pebbly and geological at St Cyrus NNR and beyond!
The Scottish Geology Trust and NatureScot bring you a display of local rocks, pebbles and agates to celebrate everything geological at St Cyrus NNR and beyond, as part of the
#Scottish Geology Festival 2024.
Geologists and SGT volunteers will be on hand on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September, from 11am – 4pm. They will tell you all about the local rocks and guide you through the geological story of how the cliffs formed and how the beach pebbles came to St Cyrus.
There will also be fluorescent mineral display showing how ultra violet light can transform the most drab rocks into beautiful and colourful specimens.
A talk on “how geology shaped us” will be given at 1pm on Saturday and Sunday in the Old Lifeboat Shed.
There will be childrens activities too! Make a pebble friend, a fossil or a badge!
Bring your own rocks and fossils along for a show and tell!
Please meet at the visitor centre. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Our events are free but you can donate to this reserve.
