Loch Sunart to the Sound of Jura NCMPA

This Nature Conservation MPA was designated to protect a resident population of common skate, the world’s largest species of skate.

The Loch Sunart to the Sound of Jura NCMPA has been shown to support a good number of resident mature common skate that may also be breeding in the area.

One of Scotland’s largest NCMPAs, it encompasses a complex underwater landscape of channels and troughs created by glaciers during the last ice age.
