Upper Loch Fyne and Loch Goil NCMPA - designation documents

Protecting the sea lochs of this Nature Conservation MPA helps safeguard the Clyde’s diversity of animals, plants and seabed habitats.

Upper Loch Fyne and Loch Goil Nature Conservation MPA was designated to protect an assembly of seabed habitats.

These long, narrow sea lochs are home to the fireworks anemone, flame shell beds and the ocean quahog – one of the longest lived animals on the planet.

Conservation objectives

  • Recover the flame shell bed
  • Conserve the other protected features of the Upper Loch Fyne and Goil NCMPA

Biodiversity:

  • burrowed mud
  • flame shell beds
  • horse mussel beds
  • ocean quahog aggregations
  • sublittoral mud and specific mixed sediment communities
