Green networks and greenspace

Planners and developers must consider greenspace in any proposal to ensure easy access to the outdoors and open-air recreation.

For a greener, healthier Scotland, development planning and management must promote and safeguard green networks, greenspace and outdoor access.

Open-air recreation not only keeps us fit and well, it’s also a big part of our nation’s economy.

Planning authorities should assess current and future open space needs, and plan how to protect open spaces to help meet those needs.

Scotland’s Greenspace Map lets planners, developers and others see the current scale of Scotland’s urban greenspace.
