Assessing Impacts on Wild Land Areas: draft guidance

Our consultation on this technical guidance closed in April 2017. You should use the draft document while we consider responses.

Our ‘wilder’ landscapes – often thought of as a big part of Scotland’s identity – are protected by landscape policy for wild land.

To support Scottish Planning Policy, we produced an interim guidance note in 2007 setting out how to assess the impacts of development proposals on wild land.

We have since identified and mapped Scotland’s ‘wild land areas', published descriptions, and consulted on replacement guidance. We are reviewing all responses and will revise the guidance in the near future. For now you should use the draft guidance below. This sets out how to assess impacts on a wild land area.
