Deer management on designated sites

We work with others to bring into favourable condition designated sites in poor condition due to wild deer impacts.

The Delivering Favourable Condition programme prioritises the use of NatureScot, and partners, resources to bring designated features into favourable condition. This supports the UK and Scottish Government’s commitment to make sure that habitats and species designated under European legislation continue to represent the best examples of their type.

The Delivering Favourable Condition programme brings together landowners and land managers, public bodies and conservation organisations, to help improve sites adversely affected by a range of factors including grazing and trampling.

The Scottish Rural Development Programme offers schemes that can provide funding for managing designated sites. This includes additional financial support to help reduce deer impacts and improve the situation.
