The newly launched Biodiversity Challenge Fund (BCF) is a competitive fund with a budget of up to £2 million which aims to enable targeted action for priority habitats and species, accelerating efforts that will help Scotland meets its international biodiversity commitments.
Scottish Natural Heritage will invest up to £2 million in projects across Scotland that focus on improving and restoring habitats, creating/enhancing habitats for key species and, where appropriate, encourage increased access to nature.
Action is needed on the following Aichi targets:
- Habitat loss reduced (Aichi target 5)
- Sustainable agriculture, aquaculture and forestry (Aichi target 7)
- Invasive species (Aichi target 9)
- Ecosystems vulnerable to climate change (Aichi target 10)
The fund is for projects that will be implemented during the 2019/20 and 2020/21 financial years, with projects starting from May 2019. ‘On the ground’ action must be complete by 30 September 2020 to be included in the Aichi target reporting.
