Priority Habitat - Ponds

Ponds may be man-made or natural bodies of permanent or temporary standing water, which have a surface area of between 1 m2 and 2 ha (20,000m2). The Ponds priority habitat definition is complex and only includes a sub-group of all ponds.  It excludes sites that are considered as a functional component of other priority habitat types, such as pools in Blanket bog.  It also excludes sites that do not contain features of high conservation importance.
