This priority habitat includes lochs, which are larger than 1 ha in surface area and which have low levels of alkalinity and nutrients, and low productivity. This habitat type is associated with areas of hard, acid geology, and areas of peat and poor soils, such as occur in upland areas and the Highlands and Islands.
