The Nature of Scotland magazine - Spring Summer 2016 - Issue 23

One of our main features this time asks how we can help nature to cope with climate change. Another looks in depth at the initial steps towards securing Scotland’s biodiversity, as set out in the Route Map to 2020.

Wildlife features focus on:

  • tagging basking sharks
  • researching the distribution and abundance of mountain hares to inform wildlife management, as well as
  • tackling the problem of stoats on Orkney.

Looking beyond Scotland, we explore how the woodland regeneration going on in south-west Norway could take off here, in our Highlands.

The West Highland Way is this issue’s featured great trail. Hugh Miller is also celebrated, with a recreation of his voyage of geological discovery around the islands of Argyll.
