Small-scale renewable energy technology can make a positive contribution to renewable energy targets. But there can sometimes be negative impacts on nature conservation.
This leaflet outlines what some of these impacts are, how you can avoid them and where you can go for more advice. It includes specific checklists for each of the common technologies:
• wind turbines
• solar panels
• heat pumps
• hydro-electricity schemes
There are also steps to take in relation to protected areas, birds and bats in flight, bat roosts, and protected freshwater species and water quality.
