Landscape Character Assessment guidance for England and Scotland

This guidance provides updated advice on Landscape Character Assessment – an important tool for all those involved in influencing the landscape. It refers to England and Scotland, although aspects may have relevance to other parts of the British Isles.

The guidance is for individuals and organisations whose activities affect the landscape. That means anyone involved in commissioning, carrying out and using results from a Landscape Character Assessment. This includes practitioners in local authorities, government departments and agencies, development companies, utilities and private practice.

The guidance is in two parts. This document is a useful guide to the approach to and methods for Landscape Character Assessment. There is also a separate series of topic papers, providing much more detail on particular uses and policy contexts.
