A Guide to Upland Habitats - Surveying Land Management Impacts - Volumes 1 and 2

The ‘state’ of the Scottish uplands and what’s needed to improve them have long been debated. In this two-volume guide, Scottish Natural Heritage attempts to resolve some of the issues involved.

Concerns have focused especially on the impacts of high numbers of sheep and deer and on the occurrence of uncontrolled burning. This guide sets out the small-scale indicators and trend field indicators that can be used to determine whether these and other impacts are occurring.

It is for use by professional field staff in conservation agencies and non-governmental organisations and ecological contractors doing field surveys.
