Flanders Big Summer Day Out Event

When: Saturday 15th June (9am – 2pm)
Where: Flanders Moss NNR

Thinking of ideas for a summer day out with the family? Why not spend a day at Flanders Moss? See what our staff uncover in our moth traps, discover the bogs abundance of aquatic creatures with pond dipping, join a tour of the reserve and have fun with some nature crafts.

Activities:


Moth Trapping (9am-10am)
Come to Flanders for 9am to see what moths staff uncover in our light traps. We will try to identify them and safely release each one.

Pond Dipping (10am – 2pm)
Discover the creatures of the pond and have a go at pond species identification.

Nature Crafts (10am – 2pm)
Our information tent and nature crafts hub will be set up in the car park from 10am until 2pm. Chat to our Reserve Officers and register for the tour here.

12pm – Tour
Join a tour of the boardwalk led by one of our Reserve Officers to learn about Flanders history, importance and the plants and animals that call the bog home. (Please arrive in advance and register for the tour at the information tent)

  • Event suitable for all ages.
  • Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
  • Please note there are no visitor facilities at the moss itself, toilets and shops can be accessed at the Village of Thornhill, less than a 5min drive from the reserve/event.
