SNH nature reserves

Scottish Natural Heritage nature reserves are managed mainly for their natural heritage interest, but you can visit any of them.

There’s plenty to see at our nature reserves, from the world-famous fossil fish of Achanarras Quarry to Glencripesdale’s lush and remote woodland.

All SNH nature reserves are protected as Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and some are also Natura sites. We own and currently manage all but one site. Dunnet Forestry Trust manages Dunnet Forest Nature Reserve as a community woodland.

You’re welcome to visit any of our nature reserves. But be aware that they offer few, if any, visitor facilities.

To find reserves with more visitor facilities, visit Scotland’s National Nature Reserves website.
