Rum NNR - Breeding bird monitoring results 2019
NatureScot keeps a record of the success of key breeding bird species that breed on Rum NNR. The information is collected annually by NatureScot staff and volunteers. We are grateful for the help of all our volunteers for their help in collecting these results.
Manx Shearwater
Burrows were monitored in May (occupancy) with 115 occupied burrows marked for revisiting. Monitoring in August (Chick presence) was incomplete due to weather conditions preventing fieldwork from going ahead.

Red-throated Divers
19 confirmed breeding attempts. 9 of these were successful fledging a total of 13 chicks. This includes 4 nests that produced two chicks.

Seabirds
The most recent seabird count was carried out on 5 June 2018 from Papadil to Loch Scresort:
- Guillemot 1372 birds on nesting ledges
- Razorbill 210 birds on nesting ledges
- Kittiwake 551 apparently occupied sites
- Fulmar 46 apparently occupied sites
- Shag 11 occupied nests
- Herring Gull 36 apparently occupied sites
- Great Black-back Gull 2 apparently occupied sites
- Lesser Black-back Gull 7 apparently occupied sites
