In this revised guidance document aimed at local authorities, discover how policies and recent practice have changed the context for local landscape designations. This new guide provides practical guidance on refreshing your approach and reviewing these designations.
Of course, when we think of Scotland’s landscapes, we initially think of the beautiful and remote countryside, mountains and coastline for which Scotland is renowned. But the places close to and within our towns are also valued. We must take an ‘all-landscape’ approach to Scotland’s landscapes. This guidance has been revised by both NatureScot and Historic Environment Scotland and encourages a more joined-up approach to the natural and cultural aspects of our landscapes.
Local landscape designations can play an important role in promoting awareness of, pride in and care for our most valued local landscapes. This guidance helps to achieve that.
