Welcome to the Scottish Adder Survey
If you are viewing this page you have probably already been contacted directly by NFUS and/or Scottish Land & Estates, but if not, and you are a farmer, land owner or land manager and would like to contribute, you're very welcome to take part.
The adder is the only widespread native snake occurring in Scotland. (There are a few records of grass snakes, particularly in SW Scotland, but it is unclear whether these represent a native local population or are the result of introductions). There is evidence of a long term decline in adder populations in Britain, especially in England, although the situation here in Scotland is less clear, hence the need for this survey. The project is being run through a partnership comprising NatureScot, the Amphibian & Reptile Conservation Trust (ARC) and the Amphibian & Reptile Groups of the UK (ARGUK)
We would be very grateful if you could spend a few minutes completing this on-line questionnaire, seeking information on where you may have encountered adders (and other Scottish reptiles) on your land, or have other knowledge of their presence there.
