In 2013, the Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee held an inquiry into deer management. The Scottish Government then asked us to conduct a review into the effectiveness of deer management in Scotland.
Scottish Natural Heritage submitted this final report to the Cabinet Secretary on 31 October 2016.
The report identifies deer as an important part of our natural heritage and details their impacts, which are significant without being uniform. Our report reveals that current approaches to deer management across Scotland have varying levels of success in addressing the challenges presented.
Progress has been made, but there is still much to do. Continuing the partnership approach between SNH and the deer sector is as vital as ever.
