Chief Executive and Accountable Officer

Our Chief Executive, Francesca Osowska has overall responsibility for managing the organisation including oversight of delivery of our undertakings to Government and the aspirations of our Corporate Strategy, and ensuring that Scottish Natural Heritage operates efficiently and effectively.

Francesca is the Accountable Officer for SNH. As such, she is responsible to the Scottish Parliament and to the Accountable Office of the responsible department for the resources under her control.

Director of Business Services and Transformation

Jane Macdonald keeps our Chief Executive and Management Team informed so that they can make sound strategic decisions.

Jane draws on our business planning, allocations, budget management and reporting activities to produce timely and accurate management information.

It’s also Jane’s task to confirm that how we deliver our work and manage our finances is effective. This gives our Chief Executive and Board assurance that their obligations are being met.

Jane supports collaboration across our four portfolios of work in her role as line manager of the portfolio managers. This helps to ensure that we can accurately monitor how all aspects of the corporate plan are being realised. Budget reallocations and other actions can then be made to keep us on track.

Director of Sustainable Growth

Nick Halfhide’s role as Director of Sustainable Growth gives him oversight of all local offices from the Northern Isles to Southern Scotland.

Nick oversees the operational and advisory activities of our local offices as well as the work of the Protected Places and Wildlife Operations units.

His remit spans:

  • licensing
  • grants
  • local partnerships
  • Community Planning Partnership work
  • work with local authorities
  • site designation and management (excluding marine sites)

Head of Operations

Ross Johnston supports our Director of Operations and watches over the work of all seven of our operational areas.

This allows Ross to help each operational area to deliver its contribution to our current business plan.

Ross leads the Operations Directorate on various strategic issues designed to improve service delivery for our internal and external customers.

He also liaises with our other heads of service to ensure the joined-up and effective delivery of our work as a whole.

Head of Business Services and Transformation

Alan has responsibility for finance, planning and performance and strategic outlook in managing delivery of SNH's Outcomes.  As part of SLT he leads on Corporate and Business Planning, resource allocations across SNH Outcomes, performance reporting and horizon scanning on strategic issues. Alan works with the Director of Outcome 4 to drive transformation of our ways of working, and also leads the programme of work to diversify SNH's funding.
