Connecting People and Nature - NatureScot Corporate Plan 2018 - 2022

Connecting People and Nature – message of support from Ms Roseanna Cunningham, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform.

I am delighted to introduce Connecting People and Nature, NatureScot’s new corporate plan.

The emphasis on connecting people and nature will bring progress to many Government priorities; championing biodiversity and peatland restoration, as well as finding common ground over competing interests in upland issues such as deer and woodland management, raptors, grouse and wildlife crime.  NatureScot’s work on Green Infrastructure will see strong, tangible improvements to some of the long-standing inequalities we have faced in Scotland.  Inequalities often associated with poor quality local environments, low levels of life expectancy and fewer opportunities.

The intention to address climate change and nature in tandem supports the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Plan.  Our natural environment and biodiversity are inherently linked with action on climate change mitigation and adaptation.

In any nation, a healthy economy is dependent on a healthy natural environment. The outcomes NatureScot have committed to will help underpin our drive to maximise the potential to increase prosperity and improve the wellbeing of people across Scotland.

I’m encouraged to hear about the amount of different viewpoints that contributed to Connecting People and Nature but the real work starts now as NatureScot collaborates with others to achieve the outcomes.  The Scottish Government looks forward to working with NatureScot in delivering this plan and achieving better outcomes for people and nature in Scotland.
